Vegas 2 Venice (and back again)

Hi everyone, it's been a little while since we last updated the news section. It's safe to say we have had our busiest year yet working on a handful of major longform projects and a sprinkling of smaller scale, single day projects. Look out for our next news post where we'll tell you all about what else we've been up to this year.

In the meantime though I'd like to tell you all about our latest project, well as a matter of fact it's something we've been involved with since May of last year. 2012 is definitely the year of the documentary for us and it's fantastic that the ball has started to build up some momentum on the Vegas2Vegas project which you may remember us posting about a couple of months ago.

So, a few things have changed since we last updated you about the Vegas2Vegas project; firstly our current adventure is called Vegas2Venice (which I'll get to in a moment) secondly the charity we will be supporting has changed from Keep a Child Alive to Arms Around the Child. This is a decision that was made by to the project creators Jamie & Joe and we're fully supportive of that decision as it still means we are raising awareness (and lots of money) for HIV/AIDS. Plus it is now for a London based charity as opposed to a New York based one so it's right on our door step. Jamie & Joe have also been made official guardians for Arms Around the Child too . Very excellent.

In the lead up to the Vegas2Venice adventure (I promise I'll get to it in a moment) we also helped out the lads by shooting a fun live action/stop-motion animated video to raise awareness of the Vegas2Vegas project as a whole. It's very fun and launches next Wednesday 25th April on their website. In the mean time check out the teaser trailer embedded below.

Vegas2Venice is exactly what it says on the tin AND so much more. I'll hand you over briefly to Jamie Hay, Vegas2Vegas co-founder for some quick words...

"We’re going in search of the passions of those affected by HIV and focus on the side of the story that people want to shout about. There are loads of documentaries and programmes out there that are only concentrating on the disease, how it makes us different, and the hard times that go with it. But we don’t think that is the only side of the story that those with HIV want to tell.

So we’re going to get out there and discover what really inspires these people and uncover their passions. Celebrating their stories and hopefully rather than highlighting what makes us different we look at what makes us the same."

Starting on June 1st (that's 6 weeks today) Jamie & Joe will embark on a massive road trip around Europe taking in Bristol, Paris, Geneva, Milan, Venice, Innsbruck, Munich, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Brussels, Bruges and London. In a week. That's just under 2500 miles.

We at Elixir are the lucky ones with the honour of following them around for the week documenting the entire trials and tribulations. The finished article will be a three x12 minute documentary series hosted on the Vegas2Vegas Youtube channel. And the best thing is; it's free to watch. You get to see and delve into the lives of people with HIV/AIDS, people who work with and support them, and people who work hard to prevent and invent new treatments. We'll explore these and many other themes over the course of the week.

Oh and you can take part too! The 3 part documentary web series will be entirely crowdfunded by you the public. We'll be setting up a campaign account on www.indiegogo.com (head on over to theVegas2Vegas website for more info on Indiegogo, our preferred campaign supporters) from there Jamie and Joe will be looking to raise $15,000 to fund the making of the documentary web-series. The beauty of our documentary is we no longer have to wait for funding to come from 'the people with the money' types, instead we can bring the project directly to you, our audience and let you have a say. Oh and you'd also receive some rather super rewards for pledging your support too. More on that at a later date though.

Our campaign launches next Wednesday 25th April on the Indiegogo website so we were out in Cambridge last week shooting the campaign launch video. The video will go live and launch the campaign next Weds but until then here are some behind the scenes pictures of the day.
